Christina Applegate Foundation (Right Action for Women) and Patient Services, Inc. Partner to Provide Financial Assistance for Breast MRI for High-Risk Women
Right Action for Women (a partnership of The Christina Applegate Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation) and Patient Services, Inc. (PSI) have announced a partnership to assist women at high-risk for breast cancer in finding the necessary financial resources for screening breast MRI. As many of you likely know, this is a central focus of The Christina Applegate Foundation, which was formed after Ms. Applegate learned that she had a mutation in the BRCA1 gene and had a breast MRI that she states saved her life.
Relevant to BRCAscoop’s readers, breast MRI is an essential component of breast cancer screening for women with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations, but it is also quite expensive.
In the new financial assistance initiative, PSI and Right Action for Women are focusing their resources on women 45 years of age or younger with a known BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation or a family history of breast cancer. If you have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation and may need financial assistance in order to obtain screening breast MRI, you can learn more about the program by checking out the information available on the PSI website (contact information and instructions for applying to the program are available there).
